Question by : PLEASE HELP.. can’t take the pain =[?
I’m a 19 yr old Female.
I’ve had a headache for almost 16 days now. I can’t concentrate on anything. I have been to the doctor a few months ago for the same reason. Last time I had a headache for 9 days. My doctor gave me prescription pills and they worked for about 3 to 4 hours each day I took them.
Now they don’t work at all. I have tried: Motrin, Advil, vicodin, hydrocodin, methodine (i think it’s called), cyclobenzine. I have tried running hot water on my head, cold water on my head. I tried a message, hanging upside down. I ‘ve been drinking lots of water. I tried sleeping with my head elevated, i tried sleeping with no pillow at all. I tried stretching it out. (I went to terrio fitness. A physical therapy place & they told me stretches to do. Nothing works. Somes makes it worse) It’s to the point where I don’t want to brush my hair anymore, or put my hair in a pony tail because its so bad. I have a huge knot on the top of my neck on both sides, but the left side is bigger.
My head just throbs. School starts tomorrow, and I don’t want to fail college classes because I can’t concentrait. Should I go back to the doctor, or is there anything magical I can do to get rid of it???? ANYTHing??? =[

Go to the doctor. And if they don’t give do anything better than this, try a different doctor. There are shots they can give you, if it’s a migraine. And I would think after this long, they would have performed a CT or MRI of your head/brain. This is not usual. There are many reasons for headaches of course, but I would go back to the doc.
Yes, there is something that you can do. Those two big knots you have on your neck are the big cause of your headaches. The pain from our necks gets so intense that when the brain gets the message all it feels is pain so we call it a headache, blaming the messenger rather than the sender. Those muscles go to the top of your head for it’s movements so when they are tight they are also pulling on things up there and that is why your scalp is tender right now. To get rid of the pain you have to release your neck muscles and your back ones because of shared muscles there. Here’s how to make those releases:
Neck
Put your hands alongside your head so your thumbs are on the front of the muscle under your ear and your fingers are on the back of the muscle behind your head. Squeeze your thumb and fingers together and hold. Relax your body. When your fingers and thumb touch, about two minutes, slowly lower your head as far as you can, release the pressure but hold your neck lowered for another 30 seconds.
Back:
(do from a sitting position)
Place your left hand on your left leg next to your body. Place your right hand over your left shoulder, fingers over the back and the palm in the front and firmly press on them and hold. After 30 seconds slowly lower your body forward and to the outside of your left leg, keeping your left arm fairly straight as you do. When you reach your lap remain there for another 10 seconds, release the pressure but rest there for another 30 seconds. Then reverse your hand positions and do your right side.
for best results relax your body first by taking a deep breath and exhaling then remain this relaxed.
